Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
We believe there is no such thing as a dumb question, except for the question that doesn't get asked. Still, we know there are times when you don't want to let the whole service unit know that you don't know something, so we're answering some frequently asked questions here. If you have a service unit-related question you'd like to have answered (anonymity assured), please send the question to our web coordinator.
What is the August Distribution?
It is the packet of information you need for the year from Council. It includes insurance information, information about Council policies and initiatives, training information, and more.
What is Thinking Day?
It is February 22, the mutual birthday of Lord and Lady Robert Baden-Powell. Robert Baden-Powell started the Boy Scout movement in England; he was the World Chief Scout. Olave became his wife and she helped to form the Girl Guide organization; she was the World Chief Guide. On Thinking Day, Girl Guides and Girl Scouts "think" about Guides and Scouts in other parts of the world. Many troops find ways to learn about their Sister Guides and Scouts in other countries.
In our service unit, the clusters typically get together to sponsor an event in which all the troops in the cluster are invited to participate. Each troop usually selects a country to research, and then presents a skit, song, dance, or game from that country. Items from the country, food, maps, and costumes are also usually included.
